ABOUT #PLPR
The Puerto Rican Literature Project is a digital archive that collects literary works in English and Spanish by Puerto Rican poets in the archipelago and the diaspora, from the Jones-Shafroth Act (1917) to the present. The Puerto Rican Literature Project began with the compilation of an archive in Omeka of Puerto Rican literature of all literary genres, which received a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation through the US Latino Digital Humanities (USLDH) program at the University of Houston.
The project was conceived with the purpose of consolidating, reflecting, and responding to the communal exchanges of Puerto Rican poets across all regions, and as a means to amplify the reach of poetic voices to various communities of readers. The Puerto Rican Literature Project (PLPR) contextualizes writing in relation to the poetic traditions in which the poets participate, thus providing the infrastructure to stimulate the production, exchange, and dissemination of Puerto Rican literature. The PLPR disseminates and expands access to Puerto Rican literature by collecting, transcribing, and translating poetic materials that are currently located in various physical archives or have never been archived before. The archive will eventually include a database of prose writers, which will be initiated in the initial phase.
