Giannina Braschi
(She/Her)Giannina Brachi was born in 1953, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She holds a PhD in Hispanic hiterature from the State University of New York, Stony Brook. Her most celebrated works include United States of Banana (2011), Yo-Yo Boing! (1998), and The Empire of Dreams (1988). She received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, the PEN American Center, the Ford Foundation, El Diario/LA PRENSA, the Danforth Scholarship, InterAmericas, the Reed Foundation, and el Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña. A collection of essays on her work, Poets, Philosophers, Lovers: On the Writings of Giannina Braschi (Latinx and Latin American Profiles, Pittsburgh, 2020), was edited by Frederick Luis Aldama and Tess O'Dwyer, with a foreword by Ilan Stavans.
