Perfecto Álvarez grew up in the barrio Borinquen in Caguas, Puerto Rico. As a poet, he was influenced by the rural landscape and wrote décimas inspired by the river. Álvarez is the author of Gotas de acíbar: colección de versos (El Día, 1923), Espirantos otoñales: versos (Las Novedades, 1939), and Lira campestre: versos en colaboración (1945).
