Francisco L. Amadeo was born on October 10, 1878, in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, where he learned to read and write. He moved to Madrid in 1897 to take classes at the Polytechnic School (Escuela Politécnica). Upon returning to Puerto Rico, he served as Municipal Judge of Vega Baja, Delegate to the House in San Juan, Secretary of the Central Board of the Unionist Party, and Secretary of the then new legislative body, the House of Representatives. His literary works were published in La Chispa (Manatí) and La Bruja (Mayagüez), and he contributed to several well-known newspapers such as La Democracia, Puerto Rico Ilustrado, Cervantes, and Pica-Pica.
