Yarisa Colón Torres
(She/Her)The poet and educator, Yarisa Colón Torres, was born in 1977 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She has lived both in Puerto Rico and in New York, New York. She received BAs from Hunter College, the City University of New York (CUNY), in Black and Puerto Rican studies as well as in psychology. Cólon Torres creates handmade books and leads workshops in artisanal bookmaking. She has collaborated with various multidisciplinary artists to integrate music, art, performance, and the written word.
She is a 2022 Flamboyán Foundation Letras Boricuas Fellow and has been published in a variety of literary magazines, including El Beisman, La comuna de bello, Distropika, and Revista Ceiba. Her works include the artisanal books Enredadera y Colmillo (2019) and Viento Abajo (2022). In 2023, she collaborated with artists Sofía Del Mar Collins, Miguel Ángel Rivera Reyes, and Yolanda Velázquez to create an exhibition showcasing Viento Abajo.
