A singer and poet, Manuel M. Cordero Marín was born in 1928 in the Dominican Republic and grew up in Bayamón and Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. His mother Maria G. Marín Arzuaga was a nurse and also a poet who traveled from Puerto Rico to the Dominican Republic to work for the Red Cross. At the age of nine years old, Cordero Marín traveled to Puerto Rico with his mother, where he grew up and lived for the rest of his life. He went to school up until the sixth grade and then continued to teach himself about literature and the world through books. Opera music strongly influenced his poetry. Cordero Marín is the author of Sin Pretenciones and Poquito A Poco: A Ella! (2009). He died in Puerto Rico in 2012.
