The Puerto Rican Literature Project

Dr. Luis Antonio Báez, also known as Tony Baez, was born and raised in Caguas, Puerto Rico. A poet, educator, and activist, he moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1969 and went on to open up a chapter of the Young Lords in Milwaukee, where he served as the Minister of Education. He published the poem “Epitafio 2” in Revista Chicano-Riqueña in the Summer of 1985. He stood out as an advocate for the “Nueva Canción” in Puerto Rico and was featured in the video El Trovador.
