Mario Belaval was born in 1968 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His work has been published in platforms such as Distrópika, Huevo Crudo, A Propósito, La Esfinge de Papel, Musu (España), Still, Solitary Plover, Puerta del Sol, among others. Belaval obtained his B.A. in English Literature from Universidad del Sagrado Corazón. He has worked as a journalist and public relations content creator, and he is a licensed psychologist. Belaval’s work has been influenced by figures such as William Carlos Williams, Charles Reznikoff, José Emilio Pacheco, Gloria Fuertes, Olga Nolla, Víctor Hernández Cruz, Arturo Trías, Ernesto Cardenal, Rosario Castellanos, Karmelo Iribarren, Vanessa Droz, Roque Dalton, among others, and is drawn by imagist thought, as well as objectivism. Currently, he resides in San Juan and works as a copy-editor for MMM, an insurance company, and hopes to return to working as a psychologist.
