Rafael Cuevas Zequeira [Sequeira]
Rafael Cuevas Zequeira (or Sequeira) was born in 1883 and died in 1957 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was a poet, journalist, essayist, and translator. He studied in San Juan, Puerto Rico and worked as a school teacher in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico and Maunabo, Puerto Rico. He studied law at West Virginia University. In Puerto Rico, he served in several political positions, such as member of the House of Delegates, president of the Puerto Rico Commission of the Universal Exposition of San Francisco, judge for the district court of Humacao, member of the Insular Senate, and president of the Puerto Rican Alliance Party. He was the co-founder of the Republican Union Party. He published articles and poetry in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Havana, Cuba newspapers.
