Emilio del Carril (Ángel Emilio Soto González)
(He/Him)Ángel Emilio Soto González, known as Emilio del Carril, was born in 1959 in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Throughout his childhood, he lived in San Sebastián and Manatí, Puerto Rico. In 1996, he studied creative writing at the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón (USC). He holds a PhD with a specialization in Puerto Rican and Caribbean literature. Del Carril also served as president of La Cofradía de Escritores de Puerto Rico. Del Carril was the first graduate from USC’s MFA in Creative Writing, where he eventually started teaching. Throughout this period, he co-founded Editorial Pasadizo, alongside Awilda Caez and Eduardo Vera. His works include En el reino de la Garúa, primera jornada: entre soles, lunas, amores y desamores (Editorial Pasadizo, 2016), Cinco minutos para ser infiel… y otras divagaciones testiculares (Editorial Pasadizo, 2007), En el oscuro reino de la Garúa, segunda jornada (País Invisible Editores, 2018), and Un punto infinito (Isla Invisible, 2018). Del Carril was the 2018 winner of the Premio Nacional de Cuento del PEN Club.
