Sonja Marie Fernández-Quiñones was born and raised in Caguas, Puerto Rico. They obtained their BA in political science from the University of Puerto Rico and their Juris Doctor from the UPR Law School. Fernández-Quiñones sits on the board of the Minnesota Peacebuilding Leadership Institute and works as a Restorative Facilitator and Youth Advocate with the Legal Rights Center’s Y:EARS team. They’ve also worked as a legal researcher, a writer, an advocate for victims of sexual violence, and a site facilitator for the Hennepin County Sexual Assault Multidisciplinary Action Response Team. Fernández-Quiñones is a Senior Editor and Quality Auditor for Revista Didasko, a Spanish-language publication space for artistic work and writing on diverse topics. Their literary influences include Mayra Santos Febres, Yolanda Arroyo Pizzaro, Toni Morrison, bell hooks, and Stephen King, among others. Currently, they live in Minnesota.
