Eduardo "Eddie" Figueroa Condes was a Puerto Rican poet and activist who grew up in East Harlem, New York. In his early 20s, he formed part of the Puerto Rican activist organization, the Young Lords. In 1974, he played the lead in the play “Short Eyes” by Miguel Piñero. Inspired by Piñero’s Nuyorican Poets Café, he founded the arts center, New Rican Village in 1976.
