The artist, activist, and poet Emma Yolanda Galván was born in Mercedes, Texas. Since the age of five, she has lived intermittently in Chicago, Illinois. In 1976, her work was included in the anthology in due season…, a collection of student writing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
