Matías González García was born in Naguabo, Puerto Rico in 1866 and he died in Gurabo, Puerto Rico in 1938. He completed his primary studies in Gurabo, his secondary studies in Spain, and his medical studies at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. In 1886, he returned to Puerto Rico where he worked as a teacher in the towns of Gurabo and Caguas, then as the editor of the newspaper La Democracia. In 1904, he served as Delegate in the Legislative Chamber, and between 1920-1924, he held the position of mayor of Caguas, Puerto Rico. His works include: Cosas (1893), El escándalo (1894), Ernesto (1895), Carmela (1903), Gestación (1907) and El Tesoro de ausubal (1913).
