Marta Jazmín García was born in Adjuntas, located in Puerto Rico’s mountainous center. She spent her early years focused on visual arts, until she was 17, when she won first place in the poetry category of Ponce’s Centro Ceremonial de Tibes’ literary contest, with her poem about the Taínos. During those early years, she wrote and published in a high school magazine. Jazmín García holds a BA in Hispanic studies from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico in Ponce. She holds an MA from the Hispanic studies program at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus. She is also the author of Luz fugitiva (Ediciones Callejón, 2014), which received an honorable mention in El farolito azul contest for emerging poetry, organized by Callejón Press and La Tertulia bookstore. Additionally, she’s the author of El único refugio son los párpados (El taller blanco Ediciones, 2020) and El sitio del relámpago (Alayubia, 2021).

Currently, she’s a Ph.D. candidate and instructor at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
