Jesús María Lago was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico in 1873 and died in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1927 or 1929. He completed his primary and secondary education in Utuado and later moved to Spain, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in literature. Upon returning to Puerto Rico, he served as the manager of El Sol de Canadá, an insurance company. He published his poetry in El Carnaval and La Democracia. His works include “La Princesa Ita-Lu” (El Carnaval, 1904), “Melodía blanca” (La Democracía, 1905), and Cofre de Sándalo (Tipografía Artística. 1927).
