Elidio La Torre Lagares (1965) is a poet, narrator, editor, and literary critic. Born in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, La Torre graduated from the University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras and earned his MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Texas at El Paso. He has published several poetry collections, including Embudo: Poemas de fin de siglo (Self-published, 1995),  Vicios de construcción (Terranova Editores, 2008), and Ensayo del vuelo ( Terranova Editores, 2011), which was awarded the Certamen de Poesía Julia de Burgos 2008 in Puerto Rico. La Torre Lagares’s first two novels Historia de un dios pequeño (Plaza Mayor, 2001) and Gracia ( 2004) were recognized by the Puerto Rico Pen Club as some of the best books published in their respective years. La Torre Lagares's poetry and fiction have appeared in CENTRO Journal , The Acentos Review, Nagari Magazine, The Malpais Review, ARIEL CHART, Ink & Nebula, and American Poetry Journal. His most recent work Wonderful Wasteland was published in 2019 by University Press of Kentucky. He currently teaches literature and creative writing for the Department of Comparative Literature at the University of Puerto Rico.
