Yara I. Liceaga-Rojas
(She/Her)Yara I. Liceaga Rojas is a poet, writer, performer, cultural manager, and educator born in San Juan and raised in Dorado, Puerto Rico. She holds an MA in Cultural Organizing and Administration from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus. Liceaga Rojas is the author of the books Hacernos el adiós (Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, 2019), Acentos espesos/Thick Accents (Taller Mujer Orquesta, 2018), Cielo riel (Ediciones Alayubia, 2017), Época opaca (Atarraya Cartonera, 2015), and El mundo no es otra cosa (La Secta de los Perros Editores, 2014). She’s a 2021 Letras Boricuas Fellow, a Boston Neighborhood Fellow (2021-2023), a Brother Thomas Fellow (2019), and was named one of “25 Artists of Color Transforming the Cultural Landscape in Boston” by The ARTery of WBUR.
Her work has been supported by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Flamboyán Foundation, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, Cambridge Arts, the New England Foundation for the Arts, Boston Center for the Arts, The Boston Foundation, Kindle Projects, Midas Collaborative, Assets for Artists, the Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation, Boston Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture, and The City of Boston. She’s the founder and creator of the projects Poetry is Busy, Acentos espesos/Thick Accents, and El Despojo Project. Liceaga Rojas currently lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
