Mary Ely Marrero
(She/Her)Mary Ely Marrero-Pérez is a writer, theater director, educator, illustrator, and editor. At the University of Puerto Rico, she studied arts in secondary education in the department of pedagogy and pursued an MA and PhD in Hispanic studies. Marrero-Pérez pursued an MA in creative writing from the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón. As part of the cultural-linguistic exchange program from Ramapo College of New Jersey, she studied Italian at the Università degli Studi di Urbino Carlo Bo in Urbino, Italy. She directs Lamaruca, a nonprofit cultural foundation. Marrero-Pérez is Puerto Rico’s ambassador in Arte Poética Latinoamericana and her country’s representative at ERGO: Isla Literaria. Her published works include El abraso (CreateSpace, 2014), Hambre: Que solo puede tragarse a palabras (Lamaruca, 2015), Diez bocados (CreateSpace, 2016), Inamable (2017), Ojos de niña (2020), Maestro de sus venenos (2020), Malmuerta (Lamaruca, 2022), and Gas. Her plays Martín (2005), ¿Te cuento un cuento? (2012), Historia de un zapato (2011), Terapia frente al espejo (2013), Bajo tierra (2019), Te amo a morir (2019), and Cuando la memoria toma vacaciones (2020), have featured in theater festivals in Puerto Rico.
