Luis O’Neill de Milán was born in 1893 in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico and died in 1981 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was a poet, journalist, and librarian. O’Neill de Milán studied in public schools in Puerto Rico, the University of Puerto Rico, and the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. He served as editor for the journals Puerto Rico Ilustrado, Puerto Rico, and Patria. In 1913, he received a poetry prize from the Ateneo Puertorriqueño for “A un árbol” and in 1915 he chaired the Ateneo’s Recreational section. In 1923, he co-founded Los Catorce alongside his brother Francisco O’Neill de Milán. O’Neill de Milán began his career as library technician at the Biblioteca Insular in 1915-1916 and at the Carnegie Library in San Juan from 1916-1918. He went on to serve as director of the Carnegie Library from 1919 to 1945. During his tenure as director, he represented Puerto Rico at the 1929 First International Congress of Librarians and Bibliographers. His works include Arca de Recuerdos (Biblioteca de Autores Puertorriqueños, 1955).
