José Ramírez Santibañez
(He/Him)José Ramírez Santibáñez was born in 1895 in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico and died in 1950 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was a politician, poet, playwright, and prose writer. He received his law degree from the University of Puerto Rico in 1917. He presided over the Asamblea Municipal de San Juan from 1921 to 1924. Santibanez, along with Carlos N. Carreras, was part of the Puerto Rican theater movement of the 1930s. The two wrote Juan Ponce de León (1932). He was elected to serve as president of the Ateneo Puertorriqueño in 1932. In 1938, he served as president of the Partido Liberal political party. His works include Cartilla biográfica de Eugenio María de Hostos (1912) and Aventando Cenizas (Tip. Cantero, Fernández & Co. Inc., 1922).
