Verónika Reca
(She/Her)Verónika Reca was raised in the barrio of Guaraguao in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. Coming from a family dedicated to the arts, Reca studied digital photography at the Instituto Fontecha in Santurce. However, she was always writing poetry. A forensic criminologist, she graduated from the Universidad Metropolitana, Bayamón, currently known as the Universidad Ana G. Méndez. In 2021, she published her first poetry collection El abrazo de los frijoles (Editorial Pulpo), dedicated to her grandparents. Prior to this, her creative work had been published in Pa´ la posteridad (Ediciones del Flamboyán, 2019), an anthology about Hurricane María’s passing over Puerto Rico. She has also published in the magazines Small Blue Library, Espíritus Chocarreras, and Low-Fi Ardentía. Her significant influences include Ángelamaria Dávila, Arthur Rimbaud, and Carmen Laforet. Reca’s first reading was an event hosted by Ediciones del Flamboyán for the anthology on Hurricane María’s passage over Puerto Rico. Her current work is in conversation with new poetic projects by emerging youth.
