Irizelma Robles was born in1973, in Hato Rey,Puerto Rico, but grew up in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico. She completed a BA in Hispanic studies from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras. Motivated by a particular affinity for Golden Age cinema and neo-baroque Mexican poetry, she moved to Mexico City where she completed a PhD in Mesoamerican studies at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Her work includes De pez ida (Isla Negra Editores, 2003), Isla mujeres (Fragmento Imán, 2008), Agave azul (Folium, 2015), Alumbre (Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, 2018), El libro de los conjuros (Folium, 2018), and El templo de Samye (Folium, 2020). Robles’s book Lacustre (Trabalis Editores, 2020) was the recipient of the Primer Premio Internacional de Poesía Pedro Lastra, held by the Aula de Poesía América Invertida, which forms part of the Department of Hispanic Languages and Literature at the State University of New York in Stony Brook.
