A poet, actress, and singer, Sandra Rodríguez Rivera , also known as Sandra Nía Rodríguez, was born in 1956 in San Juan, Puerto Rico and is of yabucoeño upbringing. She holds a BA in social sciences from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras and an MFA in creative writing from the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón. She was a part of the theater company Pregones and the Afro-Caribbean music women’s group Retumba. Rodríguez Rivera is also the founder of Only Make Believe, a theater company for pediatric hospitals, the Compañía Aguadeños en Defensa de los Animales, and the Compañía Juvenil de Teatro. Her work has been published in anthologies and magazines, such as Esta urticante pasión de la pimienta: Junte del taller Rácata I de Hostos Community College (Prisma Books, Inc., 1982), Soles Emellis- Junte del taller Rácata II de Hostos Community College (Prisma Books, Inc, 1983), and Sábanas: Bilingual Literary Magazine.
