Yvonne Sapia (1946) is a poet born and raised in New York City to Puerto Rican immigrants. She studied at Florida Atlantic University and obtained an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Florida in Gainesville. Sapia also worked as a journalist for various newspapers. She’s the author of Fertile Crescent (Anhinga Press, 1983) and Valentino's Hair (Fc2/Black Ice Books, 1991), which won the Samuel French Morse Prize in 1987. Her works are anthologized in The Best American Poetry 1989 (Collier Books, 1989), edited by David Lehman and Growing up Puerto Rican: An Anthology (New York: Morrow, 1997).
