The Puerto Rican Literature Project

The artist and poet Chaveli Sifre was born in 1987 in Würzburg, Germany and raised in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. From a young age, she took an interest in the smell of things and remembers that one of her favorite pastimes was smelling books and reading novels. In 2011, she launched The Book of Scents as part of her solo exhibit, Fixed on the Scent of Light. Chaveli describes herself as “an artist that writes,” given that her references and influences come from theoretical texts or the art world. She has been living in Berlin for the past ten years, where she is completing an MA in museology.
