Daniel Torres
(He/Him)Luis Daniel Torres Rodríguez (1961), also known as Daniel Torres, was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, in Valle del Turabo. He is the author of the books Poemas para leerse en la calle (Editorial de Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán, 2018); De bellaqueras (Isla Negra Editores, 2009), which won the Premio Nacional de Poesía del PEN Club de Puerto Rico; Conversaciones con Aurelia (Isla Negra Editores, 2007); Mariconerías: Escritos desde el margen (Isla Negra, 2006), which received a Mención Honorífica de Cuento del PEN Club de Puerto Rico; FUSILADO dios (Isla Negra, 2000), which won the Segundo Premio de Poesía del PEN Club de Puerto Rico; Cabronerías: Historias de tres cuerpos (Isla Negra, 1995), which received a Mención Honorífica de Cuento del PEN Club de Puerto Rico; among others. He is the recipient of the 1992 Premio Letras de Oro for a Novel, and has received Awards from Puerto Rico’s PEN Club in different categories. Torres Rodríguez obtained his B.A. in Comparative Literature and Hispanic Studies from the University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras Campus, his M.A. in Hispanic Literature from SUNY at Stony Brook and his PhD in Spanish and Latin American Literature from the University of Cincinnati. His work has been influenced by Avant-garde poetics, the antinovel, and other forms of experimental literature, and he sees himself as part of the Puerto Rican literary movement of the Generación del 80. Currently, he resides in Athen, Ohio, where he is a full-time professor at the University of Ohio.
