JL Torres
(He/Him)J.L. Torres was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico, and raised in the South Bronx, New York. He holds a B.A. in Hispanic Studies and Psychology from Vassar College, an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. Torres is the author of the short-story collections, The Family Terrorist and other Stories (Arte Público Press, 2008) and Migrations (LARB Books, 2021), winner of the Tomás Rivera Book Prize; the novel, The Accidental Native (Arte Público Press, 2013); and the poetry collection, Boricua Passport (2Leaf Press, 2014). He also co-edited the anthology, Writing Off the Hyphen: New Perspectives on the Literature of the Puerto Rican Diaspora (University of Washington Press, 2008). His work has been published in North American Review, Denver Quarterly, the Americas Review, Crab Orchard Review, Bilingual Review, Connecticut Review, Tulane Review, Puerto del Sol, among others. Torres is Professor Emeritus of English at SUNY Plattsburgh.
