Luis Tubens [Logan Lu]
(He/Him)Luis Tubens, also known as Logan Lu, was born in 1981 in Chicago, Illinois. He is a slam poet, playwright, and songwriter. He holds a BA in theater from Northeastern Illinois University and is the author of the poetry collection Stone Eagle (Bobbin Lace Press, 2018). In 2017, he was the Artist-in-Residence at the Oak Park Public Library, and in 2018, he represented Chicago in the National Poetry Slam on the Lethal Poetry Slam Team. In 2020, he was the recipient of the Individual Artist Support Initiative Grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency. His significant literary influences include Paul Laurence Dunbar, Martin Espada, and Lady Lee Andrews. Tubens is currently the lead spoken word artist for ESSO Funk and the co-director and co-producer of Raíces to Roots, a theatrical production that celebrates and examines the Chicago Puerto Rican experience through original dance, spoken word, and music.
