Emilia "Azucena" Villaronga de Armstrong
(She/Her)Emilia Villaronga de Armstrong, also known as V de A and Azucena, was born in 1876 in Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico and died in 1950. She was a writer, educator, and philanthropist. Villaronga de Armstrong was an active member of the Asociación de Escritores y Artistas de Puerto Rico and played a crucial role in founding the Club de Damas de Ponce, where she served as president. She participated in cultural and artistic events, including a literary evening at the Ateneo Puertorriqueño dedicated to composer Juan Morell Campos, where she presented her piece “Afectos.” Villaronga de Armstrong published in several literary magazines during her day. Her works include “Arpegios,” “Las lavanderas,” and “Nupcial”.
