José Humberto Cáez Romero was born in 1987. He is a poet, narrator, and educator born and raised in Santurce, Puerto Rico. He is the author of ErosAquí, Maretazo (self published, 2012), and Cicatriz de Fuego (Isla Negra Editores, 2017). In 2011, he was recognized by New York’s Hispanic Heritage Foundation. His work has been published in numerous literary magazines and anthologies, including Revista Boreales, Desde un girasol: Antología de cuentos del Caribe, and Cuentos de Huracán, among others. He holds an M.A. in Puerto Rican and Caribbean Literature from the Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y el Caribe and is completing a Ph.D. in Puerto Rican and Caribbean Literature at the same institution. As a teacher, a fundamental part of his job is to show students the forms and uses of language and poetry. His major literary influences include Angelamaría Dávila, Julia de Burgos, Federico García Lorca, Mayra Santos Febre, and Rafael de León.
