Francisco López Sánchez, also known by his psedonyms Franlosán and Franclosán, was born in 1883 and died in 1950. He was a poet, playwright, short-story writer, and essayist. López Sánchez also produced humorous writing, articles, and literary criticism, publishing in numerous newspapers and magazines, such as Plumas Amigas, Almanaque Puertorriqueño Asenjo, El Carnaval, Vida Alegre, Gráfico de Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico Ilustrado, Pica-Pica, El Mundo, among others. For many years, he worked as a Treasury employee and as the secretary of the Ateneo Puertorriqueño. López Sánchez produced a variety of theatrical works, some of which were staged in the former Teatro Municipal of San Juan. Some of his better known poems include “La jibarita,” “El buen jíbaro,” and “Autobiográfica”; and his theater plays include El señorito Pepe, Barro y porcelana, Casus belli, Oros y copas, Correo cómico, San Juan al fresco, Amor perro, Bey, Las campanillas, and No más cobradores.
